He tried to warn them about illicit activity in their platform but they instead banished him.

Ruben Sim is a Roblox Youtuber. His content apart from occasional Roblox gameplay primarily focused on researching the corporation behind the scenes and challengeing the limits of their moderation. Prior to the events, Ruben exposed a Roblox Staff for having NSFW content on his social media accounts that were publicly seen in which Ruben criticized it for being unsafe for the platform. Soon after that news, Ruben was banned by the admin and their alts later soon being banned as well. Even more prior, Ruben had been also interviewing young developers who were exploited by other larger developers. One of his recent bans before the lawsuit was that he made a video on Roblox Voice chat and swore in front of an admin which he got the ban. On the 23rd of November 2021, Ruben was sued by the Roblox corporation which ended up become huge news not for Roblox community but other game communities as well.

Lawsuit

Roblox on 23 November 2021, Roblox corporation issued a lawsuit against Ruben worth 1.6 million USD. This lawsuit mainly claims that Ruben was responsible for "Terrorist threats that temporarily shut down a developer conference in October 2021" and for apparently leading a "Cybermob" to harass staff members. They claimed the evidence Ruben had been fabricated in which Ruben defended this pointing out most of the evidence was fully public online. The lawsuit had other accusations such as Ruben engaging in sexual conversation, using hateful language or uploading nude (but censored) photos of himself.

Ruben attempted to counter this claim by planning to release a series of YouTube videos documenting his findings and deconstructing the lawsuit pointing out the flaws. The first video pointed out how most of the evidence presented to the victim was quite vague and had no concrete proof to back up. Ruben also explained that some of the evidence was also public in which the admin following the artist and his personal images were stored in his public social media accounts and blogs. For instance, a nude photo of the admin was posted by the admin himself publicly and Roblox claimed that Ruben posted this to harass him when in fact this was posted personally by the Admin. Ruben did upload the first part of the documentary which documented his case on the Roblox staff member, the lawsuit and exploited developers and was about to continue the series until...

Agreement

On 16th of January 2022, both parties had reached agreement and would not be pursuing the case into court. Ruben however has to pay thousands for legal fees, but even more severe is that he is banned from accessing Roblox and making content of it in which he must delete some of it. This lawsuit became a sensation in news outlets. Roblox has been criticized for suing Ruben Sim who was rightfully calling out the bad behaviors Roblox could not normally see on the platform whether they were on it or not, instead of suing or punishing those who were abusing it. Some theorized this lawsuit was enacted due to the Youtuber's content that is potentially detrimental to the corporation's image. However, not all users were sympathetic to Ruben as some such as Deeterplays, MeganPlays and Polyhex voiced that Ruben deserved the ban. A twitter photo that was linked to the RDC incident in 2021 was later revealed not to be by Ruben and the poster admitted to be the one making the image and condemmend the tweet being used to link Ruben in which they deleted that tweet.

Afterwards

Ruben Sim is now banned from the platform but despite this, Ruben still uploaded the second part to his documentary on his lawsuit on the 3rd of July which discusses: Ruben debunking lawsuits claims such as having "sexual conversations" when they were actually jokes with adult users, Roblox's history on moderating abusive users and admins in which he criticizes the lack of enforcement upon accused users even if confronted with evidence. He also pointed out how ineffecient it was to put their resources into silencing someone trying to bring awarness to the issue instead of banning the abusers. Another issue he brings up is the fact that some of the predators Ruben mentioned have their accounts still not removed with even one being connected to a convicted online predator.

Currently Ruben Sim has set up a GoFundMe to raise money to cover the legal costs of this incident.
